    Q: What do I need?
What do I need to get started, and how many diapers should I order?

A: How many diapers you need depends on how often you want to wash them. The general rule is 24-36 diapers. Most people prefer at least 24, which means washing about every 2 days (more often with a newborn). When I started with cloth, I made the mistake of washing with only 1 or 2 clean diapers. I ended up with a naked baby at times :) Even in the dryer, it takes longer than a regular load of laundry. (I find it's best to fluff them in the dryer for 10-15 minutes before putting them on the line anyway.) You will also need some covers. These you will need to buy different sizes of. I go through 3 covers at most throughout the day, and use a wool or fleece cover at night. I recommend 6 regular covers and 2 wool or fleece covers in each size. Wool is not necessary but it is super absorbent and naturally anti-bacterial. They just need to air dry between uses, and washed once they start to smell (usually 2+ weeks). I sell organic cotton, organic wool and recycled fleece covers on my site that work very well with the BBBs. Most other covers work as well since the diapers are so trim. The gerber covers available at department stores work fairly well, but do not last. I like to keep them around in case I run out of the better quality covers. Investing in quality covers is worth it. I can give you more recommendations if you would like.

Some other supplies that you may need are: a diaper pail (a kitchen trash can with a cover works well), a pail liner or 2, inserts for nighttime and heavy wetters, a wet bag for outings, and 2-3 dozen cloth wipes.

    Q: Caring for diapers
How do I care for my new diapers?

A: Boo Bear Buns Diaper Washing Instructions
Launder new diapers and accessories 3-5 times before use to wash away the natural oils. Wash in hot water & dry in a dryer. Washing with other diapers will cause oils to transfer to them. There will be quite a bit of lint these first washes.
    • Before baby starts on solids, all diapers can go right in your diaper pail
    • Flush any solid poops in the toilet (I never rinse because it gets so messy)
    • Put diaper in dry pail with 1 scoop detergent on bottom (but on top of 1 diaper so it comes out easier) for deodorizing, or sprinkle a little Boo Bear Buns diaper deodorizer on each diaper
    • Dump diapers in washer & fill with cold water. If you use a pail liner, turn inside out and wash too
    • Run through wash cycle until washer empties (I timed the cycle & set a timer so I don't miss it)
    • Restart with hot water & 1 scoop detergent
    • When done, dry in dyer for about 15 minutes
    • Hang on line in the sun, stains facing direction of the sun
The sun is the safest, most effective way to remove stains. NEVER use bleach on cloth diapers.
Never use fabric softener on your diapers. It will leave a water proof coating and will lead to leaks. Also be aware that if you use fabric softener sheets in your regular loads, they will leave a coating on your dryer which will transfer to your diapers.
If you dry in the dryer, a trick that really cuts drying time is adding a dry towel. (Towel will get linty if added the first few washes!)
Are your diapers absorbing less than usual? You may need to strip them. Wash them in hot water with no detergent. Add up to 1 cup vinegar if you'd like. Check the rinse cycle for suds. If you see any suds, start over. Continue until there are no suds at all.
If you use a regular detergent or laundry soap, use 1/3-1/2 the recommended amount. They may leave a residue on your diapers over time. If you notice less absorption, strip them. Using a natural laundry detergent like Itsa Greener Clean will prevent build-up.

    Q: Who made this?
Where are most of your products manufactured?

A: Most of our products are made in the USA by work at home moms. With the help of my family and work at home contractors, I make all baby carriers, Itsa Greener Clean, and Boo Bear Buns products. Any other products available have been carefully selected based on where they are made, their quality and their environmental impact. As often as possible, I support family owned companies.

    Q: How to use
How do I use my new wrap/pouch/ring sling?

A: Rather than try making my own instructions, I feel it would be easier to direct people to sites with tried and true instructions with videos and clear pictures. Here are some of my favorites:

www.thebabywearer.com is an awesome resource for anything babywearing related. Copy and paste this: http://www.thebabywearer.com/index.php?page=usinglinks into your web browser to see their compilation of links broken up by type of carrier.

Searching YouTube for videos can be very helpful. Use the terms"babywearing" "wrap" "sling" "pouch" and any others that may pertain to your type of sling.

    Q: Reused Packaging
Why did my item arrive in a veggie burger box?

A: I strive to recycle and reuse all that I can (personally and professionally). Friends and family save their boxes and packing materials for me. I use these whenever possible to help reduce our impact on the environment.
